THE NORTH CAROLINA 
CHAPLAIN OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

The 2011 award will be presented at the annual conference, Spring of '11

The 2009 recipient was Lil Galphin from Charlotte. 

We have honored six chaplains for their distinguished ministry in pastoral care.  The 200 recipient was Harry burns.  The criteria for selecting a recipient of the Chaplain of the Year Award are as follows.  These are guidelines to help you in the nomination process. It is almost impossible for any one to excel in all categories!

We are looking for someone who sets standards of excellence for themselves and their institution; who serves patients, community and colleagues with grace and innovation; and who inspires each of us to do our best.  The winner  will be announced at the Spring Education Event, April 228-30 at Browns Summit.

1.        Participates in the North Carolina Chaplains Association

·         Attends education events regularly

·         Promotes the organization; encourages chaplains to join NCCA 

·         Helps plan meetings

·         Teaches at educational events

·         Provides leadership such as serving on board of directors

 2.      Supports colleagues

·         Mentors colleagues

·         Networks locally or regionally to build relationships

·         Mentors CPE residents 

3.      Participates in advocacy for professional chaplaincy and pastoral care

·         Educates staff/administrators about the importance of pastoral care

·         Promotes interdisciplinary teamwork within institution

·         Assists with peer review such as for APC certification

·         Promotes understanding of pastoral care in publications/media

·         Provides national and regional leadership

4.      Contributes to the field of pastoral care/chaplaincy 

·         Started a pastoral care department

·         Expanded pastoral care services

·         Provides quality pastoral care in their setting

·         Created innovative pastoral care programs

·         Developed new paradigms of chaplaincy

·         Demonstrates leadership in internal and external work setting

·         Does pastoral care research

·         Publishes articles in journals, newsletters, etc.

5.      Provides education

·         Creates, teaches or sponsors educational programs for their community

·         Teaches colleagues

·         Teaches workshops, in-services for staff

·         Provides education for local clergy

·         Teaches in CPE program

 

Think about a colleague whose contributions to pastoral care should be recognized by NCCA. You may write a narrative of their work or address their accomplishments by the categories listed above.  You may include recommendation letters from colleagues, coworkers or administrators who work with the chaplain you are nominating.
